Arnheim's Art Education Thought And Its Enlightenment

Rudolf Arnheim is one of the greatest art psychologists and aesthetes in the 20th century.Starting from the special contributions of art, he reveals the real relationship between art and human,confirm the value of art.The very profound view which he put forward about the ability of human can help us to understand the basic elements in the observation and creation of the visual arts which also can promote the development of intelligence.The purpose of this article is to comprehensively combing his theory and thought about arts education,insight into the origin and the specific contents of his theory and practice,which also can lay a better foundation for the later research.By analyzing Arnheim's writings and some comments on Arnheim's aesthetic and art education thought,this paper expatiates the background and formation process of Arnheim's art education thought. At the same time, this paper organize the related theories and research achievements of Arnheim's art educaiton thought,concludes and summarizes the specific contents which include the fundamental theory of art education and some key points of art teaching. Having an insight into the fundamental reason,revealing its essence,the paper gets some enlightenments to contemporary art education.The research has conclusion as followed:Arnheim started from the integrated theory of knowledge,maked the scientific explanation to artistic expression in psychological way.His explanation is specific and rational.For the fine arts education field,Arnheim's most prominent contribution is that he sumed up visual's essence features from the perspective of scientific exploration and emphasized the unique value of visual art education.Through a new description of visual,he gave us a deeper understanding to art education.He believed that each person's potential visual ability still needs to be awakened and art education is the best approach to awaken people's visual potential and strengthen the visual thinking. From this, we get some enlightenment from Arnheim's art education. Including we should enhance visual thinking ability of the visual quality, protect and develop the students' imagination and creativity, improve students' ability in the expression and application of the art language, and set up better art education which should have more humanistic spirit.
