| With growth in the overall living standard, an increasing number of citzens aspire for higher quality of life and pay intimate attention to fitness. In the fitness market with flourishing fitness programs, public square dancing, with lowest participation cost, most spontaneity, no limitation for ages, inclusive and recreational exercise content, became the most participated fitness program and popular worldwide.According to the research, in China, the amount of participants of public square dancing has reached up to 200 million. Basing on the its increasing influence and degree of participation, it is very impedent to study public square dancing related problems since fitness matter has attracted intense attention from the government. In the 2015 New Conference of National Fitness Exercise and Dancing Activities on 23 rd March, 2015, the State General Administration of Sports anounnced that, 12 excellent public square exercising dances, composed by esperts facing different groups,scientifically organized and easy to learn, will be promoted and instructed. Thus shows that the national government is substantially supporting the development of public square fitness programs.Through documentation, quationaire survey, expert interview, experiment, statistics and other research methods, we selected public square dancing participants in Chengdu, Sichuan as respondent and surveyed on the group characteristics of participants and fitness effect of three age groups above 40 years old.The results are as followings:1. Group characteristics: the major participants of public square dancing in Chengdu are senior people above 50 years old with greatly uneven gender distribution. Regarding the occupations, unemployed and retired participants account for 50 percent, the second large group is workers and freelancers. The education level of the participants are basically not high, most of which are middle school graduates. Most of the participants have neither participated any public square dancing contests nor studied exclusively, but just followed the team to exercise after dinner.2. Exercise content: the practice tracks among public square dancers in Chengdu mostly base on the 12 public square dances promoted by State General Administration of Sports. The tracks with highest frequency are Happy Dancing Moves, Looking to Beijing Standing in the Prairie, The Coolest Ethnic Trend, Feel Cool, and hot musics full with Sichuan regional characters such as Look at the Mountains, Waters and Sichuan, almost all of which have strong rhythm. The dancing time is mainly around 6pm to 9pm every night. Some participants said that they have danced for years and would stick to it everyday unless it rains.3. The controlled experiment shows that:(1) By weight data obtained: the age group of 40-49 square dance practitioners to reduce the weight 0.2KG, 50-59 year-old group of square dance practitioners reduced weight 0.1KG, 60-75 year-old group of Square Dance practitioners reduced weight 0.1KG. Description Square Dance Exercise weight has a positive effect on practitioners to alleviate,but insufficient exercise intensity and old-fashioned exercise content can’t stimulate the exercisers’ body functions effectivvely.(2) By seated data obtained: the age group of 40-49 square dance practitioners sitting flexion data improves 0.6cm, 50-59 year-old group of square dance practitioners sitting flexion data to improve the 0.5cm,, 60- Square dance practitioners sitting flexion data 75 age group increased by 0.5cm, Have significantly improved three age groups. Description Square Dance Exercise for Flexility practitioners have a good impact on results, and can continue to maintain.(3) By grip indexes data obtained: 40-49 square dance group practitioners change 0.1KG, 50-59 year-old group of square dance practitioners change 0.5KG, 60-75 year-old group of square dance practitioners change 0.1KG. Show Square Dance exercise influence on the grip. Effect of different training content grip is different, the effect of exercise movements better than the standard of practitioners of non-compliance action practitioners.(4) By Single-foot stand with eyes closed time data obtained: 40-49 square dance group practitioners improve 1s, 50-59 year-old group has a square dance practitioners improve 2s, 60-75 year-old group of square dance practitioners improve 1s.
