The Study Of The Chinese Word Of Letters

The appearance of the letter words brings a new field of Chinese vocabulary study,at the same time,it also presents a new problem to Chinese vocabularies which mainly formed by pure Chinese characters---that is the localization of letter words.Combined with the language specification requirements,this paper is based on the language contact theory and social linguistics.Using the methods of literature review and corpus analysis,combining with synchronic and diachronic study,a brief study on the localization of letter words is conducted.Firstly,after sorting out the absorption,development and localization of foreign words from the ancient time to the modern society,based on the dictionaries of letter words and some newspapers,“a network statistic word list of letter word localization” is established according to the collection and proofreading of letter word and its corresponding Chinese characters.Meanwhile,through a half month research on People's Daily,Peninsula Morning News and Beijing News Daily,this paper collates the usage of letter words in these newspapers.The letter words localization of different levels and the existing problems during the process are summarized through the collection and analysis of the corpus.Finally,exploring the influencing factors of localization and according to these factors,this paper puts forward some corresponding principles and hoping for providing some reference to the future writing and studing of lown-words and letter words.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,this article is divided into five chapters.The introduction part mainly talks about the background of the selected topic and the significance of the research,summaries of the related issues and the sources of the corpus,the research methods and theoretical basis as well as the selected standards.The first chapter is the exposition on the diachronic evolution of loanword localization.After introducing the concept of “localization” and the “anti-localization” trend appearing consequently with the localization,this paper makes a simple exposition separately on the situation of absorbing loanwords in each stage from Qin Dynasty to contemporary society.The second chapter is mainly about a letter word survey and according to the using frequency,the letter words can be divided into different levels such as vocabularies of level 1,vocabularies of level 2,vocabularies of level 3 and vocabularies of level 4,etc.The corpus is divided based on different areas to investigate the usage of letter words in different domains.To collect the letter words in newspapers,this paper discusses the localization of different types of letter words.The third chapter,which is based on the rich corpus,analyzes the usage of letter words and localization,summarizes the localization levels and problems existing in the process from the aspects of pronunciation,form,meaning and grammar.The fourth chapter firstly expounds the influence factors of localization and according to the influences of different factors presents some localization principles such as economy,necessity,flexibility and standardization,so as to provide reference for further study of localization of letter words.The fifth chapter summarizes the effective localization strategy of letter words and think that the letter words localization should give priority to free translation and complementary with transliteration.Pick up 36 groups localizational letter words from the corpus and use a questionnaire to investingate its acceptance and make a simple analysis among letter words,gender,age and educational level.The conclusion summarizes the main content and research limitations of this article.The innovation of this paper is using the word frequency statistics of each letter word entry and the corresponding Chinese characters to form a rich corpus.The data can present the specific circumstances and problems of localization.Through the newspapers,the usage of the letter words can show the follow-up effect of localization and can provide a reference for future letter word study.The limitation of the research is mainly manifested in dynamic data collection and lack of analysis on corpora processing.
