For a long time, the future time structure “be going to” has been concerned by many linguists at home and abroad. Under the influence of the history of English grammar, most of the current scholars focus on the single perspective of teaching grammar, semantics and cognitive linguistics, while ignoring the factors of pragmatics. In recent years, with the rapid development of the pragmatics, the meaning of English future auxiliaries tends to be studied in multiple perspectives. Therefore, this paper attempts to combine pragmatic mechanism with traditional meaning, at the same time by applying Default Semantics, try to make a reasonable explanation of the semantic-pragmatic interface meaning of ‘be going to’ from the language dynamic perspective. We try to analyze the semantic meaning and pragmatic meaning development of be going to in the period of Old English, Middle English, Modern English and Contemporary English. Meanwhile, by applying the Default Semantics Model, the research provides a unitary account for the meaning of “be going to ”in the process of historical development, fills in the gaps in the field of holistic meaning interpretation of the previous study of “be going to”. Finally, it makes the conclusion that there is no such meaning with a clear-cut demarcation between semantic and pragmatic meanings or between future and modal meanings, but a merger representation without any ambiguity.
