Wang Yun was one of the four great researchers of“Shuo Wen”in Qing Dynasty.And he was also a well-known philologist.He spent twenty years studying“Shuo Wen”,and completing his book called“Shuowen Shili”.He described his theory of Chinese characters structure,and used epigraphy for correcting“Shuo Wen”.This thesis reviews achievements of“Shuowen Shili”,dividing into five parts:The first part is introduction,introducing the status of“Shuowen Shili”research and the significance of it.In spite of many researches have been done,but this thesis summarizes the content and method in Wang Yun's epigraphy research,and it is a new study field.The second part is the thesis first chapter,which introduces Wang Yun's life experiences and his works.It is concluded that Wang Yun who was a prolific author and worked very hard.The third part is the thesis second chapter,which explains Wang Yun's structural theory of Chinese characters:One is called Liushu Theory,which means the six categories of Chinese characters.In this section, Wang Yun also advanced his different viewpoints about Liushu,including a new classification.In addition,another one is a theory of a relationship among the Chinese characters forms,Sounds and meanings.The fourth part is the thesis third chapter,introducing a study of epigraphy of“Shuowen Shili”and focusing on the content and method in Wang Yun's epigraphy research.Part five is concluding remarks of Wang yun's research.
