Scientific Text Translation Practice Report

This paper is a translation report on technical text. I chose three test reports for relay protector as the material of translation practice. The three reports were from the same inspection agency, approximately 12000 words. They were provided by a translation company. They required to complete in half a month. These reports are technology texts, with reference to electricity. They cover certain professional knowledge, but not deeply involved.With the deepening of China's reform and opening up policy and the further development of world trade, tariff barriers, access mechanism and certification standards is also increasing. Third party test market develops rapidly, and test report comes to be an indispensable material in import and export trade. Test report translation also becomes a necessity of goods abroad. Thus the translation of test reports has great practical significance in our society.By literature review, I make a brief summary of 7 language features of technology English to guide the translation practice, and as a judge of translation. The features are summarized below: To use more simple present tense; To use more passive voice; To use more modal verbs;To use more nouns, and verbs tend to converted into nouns; To use more time, place and reason adverbial clauses, less conditional sentences and more long sentences; To use less personal word,demonstrative pronouns, and determiners; To use more past participle as post modifiers and more infinitive to ensure compact structure.Then, I built a corpus for special purposes, to evaluate the translation with the language features mentioned in chapter II. It proved that I made mistakes on the tense and modal verbs.The sentences was slightly longer. And the translation skill that past participle act as postpositive attributive was not expertly applied. As for other aspects, translation can reflect the language features of original English text, and then, I revised the translation carefully.Through this translation practice, I realized that the process of translation was a comprehensive process of preparation before translation, analysis during translation, repeatedly checked after modification. Only in this way can we produce a qualified translation. At the same time, corpus tools is very useful in revising our translation but it still have many disadvantages.Therefore, in the following years, I will continue to collect materials, keep on practicing,and study translation theory to improve my ability and produce more perfect translation.
