Research meanings and final goalsTraditional Chinese Medicine is superior in dealing with deafness and tinnitus,both of which ranks among three troubled problems in otology,because it have been studying about deafness and tinnitus from a very long time ago,and it’s distinctive and has various thearapy methods.Modern Chinese Medicine focuses on single thearapy method or prescription,which is not comprehensive and systematic,or trial studies,which is rather spotty,or experimental verification,which unilaterally emphasises on argumentation.Therefore,teasing about academic origins of deafness and tinnitus in ancient documents is meaningful,for it can provide theory and practice guidance for clinic.MethodsTraditional philology research method,periodic method,summarizing and comparing methods were adopted.Firstly,ancient documents about deafness and tinnitus were roughly selected by manual and computational search with Ancient Books Catalogue of China’s TCM and Encyclopaedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine.Then,documents from Pre-Qin and Han Dynasties to the Republic of China were sorted from historical angle,origin,evolution and sustainable development in this period was arranged in chronological order.What’s important is summarizing developmental charateristics of different stages and get to know their internal successive and developmental relations.Finally,some questions need to be discussed,and research methods in historical and cultural fileds may be used when necessary.Results1.Academic origin,evolution and development in ancient documents from Pre-Qin and Han Dynasties to the Republic of China were systamatically teased Historical evolution of definitions and names of deafness and tinnitus were firstly studies.Then,the period from Pre-Qin to the Republic of China was segmented to five stages to introduce people’s cognition of deafness and tinnitus.Theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine were laid in stage I(from Pre-Qin Dynasty to Han Dynasty),statements about deafness and tinnitus in classical documents,especially in HuangDiNeiJing have been used up to now.In this stage,etiology and pathogenesis as well as treatment framework of deafness and tinnitus almost came into shape,pathogenesis mainly focus on evil factors,viscera,medidian,yin and yang,qi and blood,and yung qi,while therapy methods was mainly acupuncture or combination of acupuncture and medicine.Deeper studies about pathogenesis appered in stage Ⅱ(Jin-Tang Dynasties)but still mainly focus on wind-pathogen and deficiency of the kidney.Simiao Sun diagnosed kidney from the aspects of cold-heat and deficiency-excess of viscera,and proposed the theory of toxin deafness,therapy methods were mainly acupuncture and external treatment in various forms,and health preserving guidance was paid lots of attention.Many schools appeared in stage Ⅲ(Song-Jin-Yuan Danysties).Hejian Liu proposed the theory of from the aspect of heat syndrome,and firstly suggested heal of lung when treat deafness,while Dongyuan Li put an emphasis on spleen and stomach.Statements of nourishing yin to lessen fire as well as treating miscellaneoius diseases in Danxi enriched pathogenesis of deaffness and tinnitus.Besides,Three Reasons Categorization and Heart-Kidney Determination theories were proposed by Wuduo Chen and Yonghe Yan separately.Rich prescriptions and combination of internal and external therapy methods are characteristics of Stage Ⅲ,which is a period of innovative development.Deeper disc-ussions about eiology and pathogenesis of deafness and tinnitus appeared in stage Ⅳ,the Wenbing School paid more attention to righteousness,and etiology and pathogenesis system of deafness and tinnitus improved gradually.Meanwhile,the eastward transmission of western sciences led to formation of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Huitong School,which did help to more rational cognition about deafness and tinnitus in stage Ⅴ.At last,origin,evolution and development eucidated above were concluded.2.Discussions about deafness cure from lung,origin and development of deafness and tinnitus from tri-jiao and relation between tinnitus songs and visceraThere are not many dmestic dctors who treat deafness and tinnitus from lung and tri-jiao,which is very effective,besides,its origin and development has not been systematically teased yet.Meanwhile,exsiting research about tinnitus songs are mainly focused on clinic and ignore documental research,relations between tinnitus songs and vescera in documents is worthy to be discovered.Origin,evolution and development teasing of deafness and tinnitus from ancient documens could help systamtical cognition of deafness and tinnitus,easy related studies and avoid over-generalizaition or hesitation in mini-point,which is meanful for both clinical and theorical studies.
