It refers to a standardized set of diagnosis and treatment procedures established for a particular disease. Its core lies in making the standardization of diagnosis, examination, treatment, care and other activities of the disease to be a specific process plan. In the1980s, the U.S. government began to implement the Diagnosis Related Groups-prospective payment system (DRGs-PPS), which is arranged by the diagnosis of diseases to deal with rising medical expense. It forced hospitals to make profit only when the medical expenses lower than that of DRGs-PPS standards. Therefore, the hospitals began to use the clinical pathway to standardize health care processes, control medical costs, and then achieved good results. Since then, the clinical path has also been widely used in the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, Japan and other countries.China began to introduce clinical path since1996, which gradually gets the attention of the medical profession and government departments with the advancement of health care reform in recent years. And hospitals in the country had make many clinical trials, with remarkable results. On this basis, the study of TCM’s clinical path emerged.
