Analysis Of The Quality Of Rice And Wheat Seeds In Jiangsu Province

Rice and wheat are two main food crops in Jiangsu province. Seed quality directly affects the food security of Jiangsu province. In 2014, Jiangsu province performed a specific project of against infringement of varieties and producing pseudosperm seeds. Quality of 1382 rice and 1442 wheat sample were collected from different institutes, including province, cities and coutries. Random samples were rechecked by Provincial seed quality inspection center, and level of seed quality inspection was also analyzed. Molecular methods were used to determine the reality of seeds informed by farmer. Based on the status of seed quality in Jiangsu, supervision polices for seed quality were suggested in this study. The main results were as following:1. According to the corporate standard of seeds clarity inspection, the clarity of all conventional rice, hybrid rice and wheat conformed to the standard. According to the seed quality classification standard GB4404-2008, the acceptability of clarity for conventional rice and hybrid rice samples was 99.5%. The acceptability of clarity for white and red wheat were 99.3% and 99.4%, respectively.2. According to the corporate standard of seed moisture,100% of indica rice,99.0% of japonica rice,99.3% of white wheat and 100% of red wheat had qualified moisture content. According to the seed quality classification standard GB4404-2008, the acceptability of moisture content for indica and japonica rice were 99.4% and 89.4%, respectively. The acceptability of moisture content for white and red wheat were 89.6% and 94.3%, respectively.3. According to the corporate standard of germination rate,100% of hybrid rice,99.2% of conventional rice,99.3% of white wheat and 100% of red wheat met the requirements. According to the seed quality classification standard GB4404-2008, the acceptability of germination rate for hybrid rice and conventional rice were 96.3% and 91.6%, respectively. the acceptability of germination rate for white and red wheat were 94.6% and 98.7%, respectively.4. According to the GB4404-2008 seed quality classification standard, combined the main standard of China seed quality classification,83% rice samples and 88% wheat sample meet its standards. 5.Integrating four national standards of seed quality and according to the seed quality classification standard GB4404-2008,83% of tested rice and 88% of tested wheat met the national standard. 6.Same results were got for clarity, germination rate and seed moisture after sampling some rice seeds. The difference of clarity was controlled by 0.2%, the difference of seed moisture was controlled in 0.3% and the difference of germination rate was controlled by 3%. For wheat, clarity for all samples was the same between sampling and rechecking results except for zhenmail 1 with 0.6% reducing. Difference of germination rate for all wheat was controlled by less than 2% except one sample with 3% difference between sampling and rechecking results. Seed moisture for all wheat was same between sampling and rechecking results. These results indicated that seed management stations in Jiangsu had good basis for rice and wheat seed quality inspection.
