Eisenman's "graphical" Perspective Under Transparency

Peter Eisenman is one of the most important building theorists and architects in the latter half of 20 th century.By means of analyzing formal creation in building from “iconography” perspective adopted by Eisenman,this paper aims to rethink the multi-level and complexity during building expression.The previous formal analysis mainly focused on the iconic property of building rather than the syntax logic regulating form generation when building is in n states,such as the indefinite state with messy mind,developing from “nothing”.In other words,the former researches vocabulary while Eisenman studies sentence formation method and the dynamic course of brain when constituting sentence.Influenced by his tutor Colin Rove and new criticism in this stage,Eisenman attempts to seek for a kind of independent,rational and objective analysis as well as criticism method.Focusing on the word “transparency” in modern building vocabulary,I read and analyze by comparing Italian rationalism Trani's Fascist Palace and post-modern Peter Eisenman residence No.2,and emphatically discuss its expression under formal structure as well as influence on building independence idea.Through researching Eisenman's “iconography” perspective and summarizing form,I expect to sort building inheritance and development and rediscover building form rather than purely starting and ending with experience.
