Abstract/Summary:
Chinese classical gardens have profound culture and history. Its design is well known with its humanity, entertaining and variability. In this paper, by studying modern classical style gardens, the author tried to interpret the classical garden space characters from the angle of modern architectural design theories, and explore its inheritance relationships with modern architectures.The main structure of the article is divided into four parts, the first part is introduction. The second part describes the building typology and applicability analysis, the third part is the analysis of the classical garden space design as applied to modern building. By analyzing two elements of spacial features-layout and space entity, to interpret the characters of classical garden in modern architectures. The fourth part is the expression of the classical gardens in modern design. The paper take the new reception center in XiangShan campus as an example, which is located in the campus of China Academy of Art, Hangzhou, China. The author tried to discover new meanings of classical gardens through the discussion of front part. The last part is the conclusion and attempt to apply the theory to practical designs.The purpose of this page is to explore the most essential features of classical gardens and apply those principles to modern architecture designs.
