Dunhuang Murals In The Tang Dynasty Female Support Costumes In The Design Of Clothing

Mogao Grottoes is the treasure of Chinese art and culture in which we can explore the mysteries of the long history of China and it boasts a variety of characters,each of which wears gorgeous costumes and decks with exquisite accessories that all will dazzle people’s eyes.The author has chosen from the murals of the Mogao Grottoes the costumes of the benefactors of Tang Dynasty on which detailed study will be conducted,and then the author also elaborated on their innovative applications in the modern costume designs through the exploration and combing in terms of the following three aspects.First of all,the author has made some screening work to select murals of Tang Dynasty from Mogao Grottoes with the intent to exploring the overall characteristics of the benefactresses’ costumes according to the classification of the times,so the author made study on the coat,single unlined clothing and underwear of the benefactresses’ costumes in sequence.And by referring to and comparing with the relevant literature documents,it will be found out that whether or not the characteristics of the costumes in murals are coinciding with the historical records.As for the bottom part of the costumes,the author applied the same method to explore and,too,to study if their naming and clothing matching styles in murals are corresponding to the historical records by the comparison with relative literature documents.Then,by means of making researches on the murals,the author has combed and analyzed the patterns of the benefactresses’ costumes,and finally finished the drawing of these patterns and made a summary of it.Secondly,the author has sorted out and studied on the exact identity and costumes of the benefactors in the key caves of Tang Dynasty and,by making reference to a large number of historical literature documents,has determined the identity of the benefactresses,and then drawn the effect maps and pattern pictures of their costumes through the analysis of the characteristics of these costumes in murals.Finally,the author would discuss about the application of the characteristics of the costumes in pictures and the image and concept of the benefactors in the modern costumes design which can promote the innovation of costumes design by the methods of image distortion,wide body modeling,embroidery printing and so forth.
