From the perspective of Chinese history,farmers in China used to hoard rations and feed grains in order to satisfy their own consumption and life demand.Grain storage of households is an important part of the national food security;which plays an essential role in maintaining food security of our country,enhancing comprehensive national strength and improving people's livelihood.However,with the rapid development of economy and society,the farmers' grain storage in China is facing challenges which conclude serious losses and decrease of stored grain.Those problems have brought great hidden trouble to our food security in quantity and quality.The farmers in mountainous area are left behind in economy and culture,and they have lower growing enthusiasm and weaker storage awareness compared with farmers in plain area.Therefore,there is a particularly serious problem of grain storage in mountainous area.This paper aims to study current situation of grain storage through visiting 282 local households who plant rice in Enshi of Wuling mountainous.Firstly,this paper discovers the achievements and shortcomings of research on the behavior of farmers' hoarding grain,and it defines the concept of farmers hoarding grain on the basis of a systematic consolidation of the relevant domestic and foreign literature.Secondly,this paper adopts empirical research about factors which influence the farmers' decision on rice storage by establishing the dualistic Logit model.Thirdly,Tobit model is established to analyze factors that affect the number of grain storage of mountainous farmers.This paper draws the conclusions that farmers' rice hoarding behavior will be influenced by the following factors which include householder features,income level,transaction costs,storage facilities as well as rice production.
