Research On The Influence Of Service Industry Agglomeration On The Level Of Urbanization Of China

Process of urbanization is linked with industrial agglomeration, naturally, where the reasonability of industrial structure including the distribution of industrial agglomeration is a vital problem in which the level of service industry agglomeration is a key factor for the quality of urbanization. Therefore, it is necessary and practically significant to investigate the influence of service industry agglomeration on the level of urbanization, especially in the fact that the service industry has been a major component of the modern economy as the basic realization of industrialization in China.As a target variable in this thesis, urbanization represented in the proportion of population is regressed linearly on the agglomerations of service and manufacture, with policy factor as a dummy variable, to analyze the impact of service industry agglomeration on urbanization in China. The agglomerations are measured by the location entropy calculated in gross products. Prior to the regression, annual data is sampled in thirty national provinces or cities spanned 1997 through 2014 from the Statistics Yearbook of China, forming a set of sectional data of 30 observations dated from 1997 to 2014.With the data above, sectional regression is specified respectively for every year from 1997 to 2014, and a set of coefficients is obtained in different specifications of the sectional regression. It is shown by the empirical results that, the service industry agglomeration and industrial agglomeration degree increases will promote the urbanization and service industry agglomeration effects of degree of urbanization rate is far more than the industrial agglomeration effects of degree of urbanization; secondly, after 2001, the impact of policy factors on urbanization rate is more and more larger, leading to the service industry agglomeration degree of urbanization rate of promoting the role of weakening; thirdly, the service industry agglomeration, industrial agglomeration degree and policy factors have different levels in promoting economic development in the eastern, central and western regions of China, respectively. The influence of service industry agglomeration on the level of urbanization is the highest in eastern and western region. The influence of industry agglomeration on the level of urbanization is roughly equivalent in central region.
