A Study On Impacts Of Transport Infrastructure On Economic Growth In Gansu Province

Since reform and opening up, the economy of Gansu is greatly promoted, transportation infrastructure continues to improve year by year, and it plays an important role in the economic development of Gansu. In recent years, the country began to advocate the construction of "the Silk Road Economic Belt" strategic planning, and the construction of the inter regional economic zone needs to consider the connection between the regional transportation network,which is the premise and foundation of the construction of the economic zone. Gansu is a key hub connecting the East and the west, and its traffic network density is significantly lower than the central region, so the study of the status and development of Gansu transportation infrastructure is increasingly important and urgent. The transportation infrastructure has two effects on regional economic growth.One is the short-term impact,traffic infrastructure investment can directly increase the region's GDP, its impact could be amplified by the multiplier effect.The other one is the long-term impact,the transportation infrastructure can not only continue to increase capital stock to accelerate economic growth, but also can improve the regional accessibility to optimize the industrial layout to promote economic growth. The result of this paper also shows that the improvement of transportation infrastructure has greatly promoted the rapid development of local economy in Gansu, and it's the basic premise of economic development and the improvement of living standard of residents. This paper uses the theory of regional economics and Development Economics to analysis the impact of transportation infrastructure on economic growth, it includes six parts: The first part is the introduction; The second part introduces the concept of transportation infrastructure and related theories; The third part is the theoretical analysis of the influence of transportation infrastructure on economic growth;The fourth part analyzes the construction and development of Gansu transportation infrastructure; The fifth part is the empirical analysis.Firstly,building a production function model to analysis the transportation infrastructure investment of Gansu, estimate the output elasticity of Gansu transportation infrastructure and study its contribution to economic growth. Then based on the previous research methods,estimating the traffic network density in Gansu, the VAR model of the two variables of economic growth and the density of traffic network in Gansu is constructed,then this paper analyzes the impact of Gansu transportation infrastructure on economic growth. The sixth part,based on the analysis of the results of the model, some relevant policies and suggestions on the construction of Gansu's infrastructure are put forward. Gansu should use the active fiscal policy to promote the construction of transportation infrastructure to improve continuously and improve the accessibility of Gansu transportation network. It will have a significant positive impact on local economic growth in the current period of Gansu, and will be essential to the long-term and steady growth of the economy of Gansu in the future.
