The academic circles have carried on extensive and deep research on the influence of transportation infrastructure on economic agglomeration and foreign trade, and have achieved fruitful results. It is generally believed that the construction of transportation infrastructure will reduce the cost of transportation, accelerate the speed of information flow, and thus affect the location decision of economic activity, and then influence the export trade. However, how to reduce the transportation cost caused by the construction of the transportation infrastructure and the location decisions of the economic activities, there are still different conclusions in the theoretical circle. Some people think that the reduction in transport costs will promote economic agglomeration, and some believe that this will lead to regional dispersion of economic activities. On the impact of economic agglomeration on foreign trade, it is generally believed that economic agglomeration can generate economies of scale, imperfect competition and other effects to promote foreign trade growth. At the same time, the construction of transportation infrastructure and the reduction of the cost of transportation directly promote the growth of foreign trade. But what is the effect of economic agglomeration on the growth of foreign trade is positive or negative? The impact of how much? The answers are not exactly the same. Taking the railway construction in China as an example, this paper provides a new answer to the above questions by the theoretical and empirical analysis of the above problems. In theory, this paper explains the mechanism of transport infrastructure on economic agglomeration and influence on export trade, and the Chinese railway construction project as an example to test the theoretical assumptions, the main conclusions are as follows:(1) the transportation infrastructure in the export trade through two ways:one is to reduce the cost of transportation directly the two is to promote export growth by promoting regional economic agglomeration indirectly promote exports; (2) transport infrastructure on the economic agglomeration effect mainly through its efficiency and sharing, but also has a feature of the bell shaped curve, which is to promote economic agglomeration, with the passage of time and the dispersion of economic activity; (3) the economic agglomeration effect on the export trade mainly through the effects of exterior scale economy, competition effect and collective action effect; (4) an empirical study found that the railway. Degree of increase of regional economic agglomeration has significant effect, so the perfection of the Chinese railway network in a certain extent of economic agglomeration had a role in promoting; (5) economic agglomeration degree is high, China’s exports will also increase accordingly; (6) railway density increased to export growth has a significant direct role in promoting.
