Since 2003, as the development of world shipping industry, the shipbuilding industry of China has been entering into a golden age. Chinese shipbuilding is taking more shares in international market. Until 2011, the total completed orders, on-going orders as well as new orders rank the first all over the world in three consecutive years. However, at the back of this golden developing age, extensive management, resources waste, inefficiency and weak engineering capability must be noted. Although the overall capacity of shipbuilding is leading the world, we are still far behind the developed shipbuilding countries such as Japan and Korea in the field of management, construction efficiency, cost control and technical innovation. In recent years, economy recession keeps hitting the world, shipbuilding orders declined sharply and the price is falling severely. Under this circumstance, how to improve the core competitiveness and industrial upgrading is the key point for Chinese shipbuilding enterprises to survive.The characteristics of shipbuilding industry are long construction duration, complicated process, diversified workforce and huge workload. In tradition, the shipbuilding enterprises adopted "Human Wave" tactics to speed-up and ignored the investment on management/technical innovation, which caused our enterprises losing our core competitiveness against Japanese and Korean shipbuilding enterprises. Low efficiency will lead to cost increase and resource waste, furthermore, it will affect the overall capacity and profit of the industry.In this paper, I take Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corp. as an example, analyze the key processes of construction preparation, construction progress control, block construction and final erection, and find the problems which will cause the inefficiency and delay. Finally, solve these problems and take measures to improve the construction efficiency.
