Based on the development of a Radar Radome IPD (Insertion Phase Delay) Test System, the paper has conducted an in-depth study on the Testing Methods and Implementation of Radome IPD.IPD is an important parameter for the electrical performance of radar. Aiming at the real problems in the engineering design of Radar IPD Test, the paper has introduced typical traditional IPD Testing methods and on the basis of this come up with a new method to simplify the excitation signal source in the testing system. Taking advantage of the DFT-based digital IF (intermediate frequency) phase extraction technology, the new method uses the combination of Microwave Synthesizer and Step Phase Shifter to replace the double synthesizers in the original system so as to optimize generation of coherent different frequency excitation signals. The paper has also done theoretical analysis on the necessity and feasibility of the new method and built hardware experiment models for it. By comparing the new method with the typical method (DFT method), the paper has analyzed problems that might happen to key parts of the whole study . It turns out that the results are highly stable and agreeing with the theories, proving that the new method is feasible. In this way, the method can guarantee the coherence of excitation signals and reduce noise interference effectively. Besides it has also simplified testing circuits obviously, cut the cost and reduced the difficulty for developing the signal source in the system, which are very good for product improvement and spread of technology.
