With the rapid development of the industrial Internet of things(IIoT),and its huge application prospects have aroused great concern of both the academic and industry.Publish/subscribe mechanism is an important communication pattern in IIo T,while there is a lack of uniform standards and effective publish/subscribe scheme in practical publish/subscribe service.Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol(XMPP)is a real time communications protocol with good real-time and scalability based on IP technology and Extensible Markup Language(XML),it can also effectively support publish/subscribe communication pattern. This thesis intends to extend the XMPP-based publish/subscribe functionality in the internet to IIoT scenarios to implement a unified publish/subscribe functionality between the underlying Internet of things and the Internet. However,IIoT devices include not only resource-rich devices, but also resource-constrained devices. Thus, the traditional XMPP publish/subscribe scheme is not suitable for directly using in IIoT.Driven by this, this thesis improves and optimizes the traditional publish/subscribe functionality of XMPP protocol,so that a scheme of publish/subscribe for IIoT equipment is proposed based on XMPP protocol to achieve the publish/subscribe functionality between the underlying Internet of things and the Internet. The main work of this thesis includes:1.The key technologies of XMPP protocol are analyzed and the benefits and technical challenges of applying the XMPP-based publish/subscribe functionality to IIoT are investigated.2.According to the application demands of IIoT,a XMPP-based publish/subscribe scheme for IIoT devices is designed. On the one hand, this scheme mainly adds the publish/subscribe relationship maintenance and management functions to the XMPP server,so that the complexity of the publication function and the resource consumption are reduced. On the other hand, this scheme implements the sleep mechanism to support the resource-constrained devices with sleep function.Furthermore, both event-driven publish/subscribe functionality and periodic publish/subscribe functionality are supported in the proposed scheme to satisfy the data collection of IIoT.3.Not only the XMPP server and client software that support the publish/subscribe scheme are implemented, but also the cloud deployments for publish/subscribe servers are implemented. In addition, the embedded Linux client software is developed for the resource-rich IIoT devices, while the 6LoWPAN-based client software is developed for the resource-constrained IIoT devices.4.The function and performance of the developed XMPP-based publish/subscribe system have been tested on practical test environment and system. The tests results demonstrate that the XMPP server and client software implemented by following the XMPP-based publish/subscribe scheme are suitable for the application scenarios of IIoT.The proposed publish/subscribe scheme in this thesis can not only implements the publish/subscribe functionality for the underlying Internet of things, but also implements the publish/subscribe functionality between the underlying Internet of things and the Internet. In addition, the research work of this thesis has reference value for the unified publish/subscribe functionality of heterogeneous networks.
