Generally,there is a depth of field(DOF)constraint for each kind of auto-stereoscopic display owing to the limited angular resolution,which restricts the depth of display.Device-specific blurring will occur if the depth of object exceeds the DOF boundary.A novel depth-perception preserved three-dimensional(3D)content remapping method is presented to meet the DOF constraint of a target 3D display.The main research contents and results are showed as follows.1.Research have been done in the principles of stereo display methods,visual perception of stereo display,and the 3D content process.Firstly,the main methods of stereo display are introduced.Secondly,it highlights the psychological and physiological factors of visual perception and the visual clues in order to illustrate the significance of depth perception respect to stereo display.Lastly,it focuses on the principles and methods of 3D content remapping,which indicates the necessity of the stereo content process.2.Some methods of 3D content process are introduced.And a novel method is proposed in this paper to remain the appearance of the image while preserve the depth information as more as possible.Firstly,a nonlinear operation is adopted to remap the reference depth map of image to fit into the DOF limitation.Secondly,the depth contrast is recovered by decomposing the reference and remapped depth map into multi-frequency bands,calculating the difference for each band,and then the remapped depth map is used to add the scaled difference of depth map of top levels' frequency bands.Lastly,the Human Visual System(HVS)visual model is adopted to achieve the trade-off between the DOF blur and depth preservation.A warping-based view synthesis method is adopted to retarget the light field according to the modified depth map.3.Research have been carried out in the technology of multiple virtual viewpoint synthesis.The warping based and depth image based rendering(DIBR)methods have been represented.The results have been displayed on the 28-viewpoint auto-stereoscopic display.The experimental results show that the modified light field is sharp while the original perception of depth is maximally preserved.
