Stereoscopic image can give human stereoscopic perception and real scenes feeling just likeyou are on the scence, and gradually become the mainstream direction of research. Thestereoscopic image market demand for application and development is more and more urgent, suchas virtual reality systems, stereoscopic digital television and so on. At the same time, human isthe ultimate receiver, and eyes have binocular masking effect characteristics. What’s more, stereoscopic image quality assessment method is one of the important property indexes tosystems, so the research of stereoscopic image quality assessment method based onvisual perception is the research focus currently. Using the properties of human visual system, Iestablished stereoscopic image test-library, and discussed the influencing factor ofstereoscopic image quality, and researched stereoscopic image objective quality assessmentmodel being consistent with human visual system in the degree paper. The main researchcontents are as follows.(1)Firstly,in order to set a comprehensive and public stereoscopic image test-library, Idesign a subjective perception experiment by discussing features and application scope of varioussubjective test method standard. Twelve clear original stereoscopic images from mobile3DTVand MPEG, and five distortion types including JPEG, JP2K compression, gaussian blur, gaussianwhite noise and H264coding distortion are adopted, so three hundred and twelve distortionstereoscopic images, whose left viewpoint and right viewpoints are suffered from the samedistortion degree, are gained. Experimental results show that, the effect of stereoscopic imagessubjective perception quality is different with the change of distortion parameters under differentdistortion types. Furthermore, researching the similarities and differences between symmetric andasymmetric stereoscopic images test-library which provided by Ningbo Univercity, experimental results show that the effect of symmetric and asymmetric stereoscopic imagessubjective perception is different with the change of distortion parameters under same distortiontypes.(2)Secondly, researching physiological phenomena and psychological phenomenon ofhuman visual system. On the one hand, discuss several classics plain image quality assessmentmethods. On the other hand, introduce stereoscopic image subjective quality and objective qualityassessment methods. Lastly, on the basis of plain image quality assessment, I proposed threestereoscopic image objective quality assessment models from left-right viewpoint image quality ordepth perception quality point of view. Experimental results show that plain image qualityassessment model is not suitable for directly used to evaluate stereoscopic image. These models have good consistency with subjective perception under single distortion type, but are not goodconsistency under hybrid distortion type.(3)Finally,considering the special features of stereoscopic image, such as depth perceptionand board effect, and combining with the human visual perception characteristics, I propose fourstereoscopic image objective quality assessment models with the combination of left-rightviewpoint image quality and depth perception quality. Experimental results show that theseobjective models have good consistency with subjective perception under JPEG, JP2Kcompression, gaussian blur, gaussian white noise, H264coding distortion type and hybriddistortion. Correlation coefficient and monotonicity of assessment performance are not less than0.92, and squared mean square error is less than seven.
