With the explosive growth of mobile data traffic,the disadvantage of traditional RAN(Radio Access Network)is becoming more and more serious,so C-RAN(Cloud RAN)is proposed.In C-RAN,some cells can share computation resource with each other,so statistical multiplexing gain can be obtained and related expenditure can be reduced.However,the amount of demanded optical fiber in C-RAN will increase a lot due to the strict requirement of front-haul links.If operaters deploy C-RAN unreasonably,its advantage of cost may disappear.In this article,we study the deployment of c-ran and propose some related suggestions.First,the paper discusses the usage amount of computation resource and radio resource based on LTE protocols.And find that the usage amount of computation resource is determined by traffic load and that the usage amount of radio resource is related to traffic load and channel quality.This discuss is fundamental for the construction of C-RAN mathematical model.Then,a mathematic model of C-RAN is proposed in this article and statistical multiplexing gain is qualified based on this model.In this model,channel quality is introduced in order to reflect the characteristic of real communication system.In fact,the qualification of statistical multiplexing gain is to explore its relationship with related parameters.Related achievement provides some reference for C-RAN's deployment.Next,the usage amount of optical fiber is qualified in specific deployment scenary and compare the deployment cost between the two kinds of RAN architecture.The usage amount of optical fiber is related to cells' radius and and the number of consolidated cells.About the comparison of deployment cost,relative cost is used and we find that if we want C-RAN to keep its advantage of cost,its deployment should satisfy some requirement.Based on previous achievement,the paper propose some suggestions about C-RAN's deployment.These suggestions take multiplexing gain and deployment cost into consideration and summarize the characteristics of consolidated cells along with the optimal consolidated level.They can provide some important guidance for C-RAN's realistic deployment.Finally,the paper summarizes the content of the study,points out some deficiencies and future research direction.
