Modern public museums as the places for cultural relics collection and exhibition,has become an important link in the social service system.On one hand,with their own advantages,they exhibit cultural relics to the general publicly;meanwhile,the boundaries between citizen class and elite culture blurs during propagation process of cultural relics in Museum.On the other hand,exhibiting cultural relics is also a process of dissemination of information,during which museums act as the role of the media so that traditional culture is molded and spread.Compared with British museum,Louvre museum and metropolitan museum of hybrid,the national Palace Museum in Taipei(hereafter called: Taipei's palace Museum)regards Chinese culture as the main shaft with single theme,which makes it a bond between Taiwan and mainland to inherit Chinese traditional culture.From media identity construction of museums,based on Taipei's Palace Museum,this thesis investigates the spreading features of traditional culture in modern museums and various power relations involved in the transmission process.The text is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is an introduction to "museums","dissemination of cultural relics" and so on.By analysis of literature,indicating origin,define the research object and range,and set up an analytical framework,under the framework of communication and semiotic theories,by combing propagation characteristics of cultural relics in museums,this thesis constructs traditional culture in modern museum.Part ?,the second chapter.The educational functions of modern public museums continue to be highlighted.Museum becomes media for public service in social system.In this chapter,with the help of communication theories,from the value of communication,dissemination,and broadcasting environment of the new media,the author explores media identity of Museum and unveils their spreading features.Part ?,the third chapter.Modern public museums with media properties model and disseminate traditional culture through the display of culture relics contained with certain authority.Through the analysis of power system in museum,the author proposes Museum is the "public historian" and further explores how Museum art exhibition through the landscape of memory to construct the traditional culture,how local landscape with cultural memory is speed up in the context of globalization.Part ?,the fourth chapter.The author invests in more specific Museum galleries landscapes to explore their spreading features and limitations as a platform for cultural communication.How museums construct city identity and their own identity will also be demonstrated in this chapter.Part ?,the fifth chapter,the new media environment has brought new possibilities for the spread of Museum.In this chapter,the author investigates the changes that digital media has exerted on the museum dissemination through analysis of interviews with media experts in Taipei Palace Museum and the characteristics of new media to offer implications for museum development in future.
