The coming era of new media has completely broken the pattern of communication of traditional media and greatly changed the original pattern of science communication.Therefore,science popularization also faces new situations and challenge.The 19th National Congress of CPC has pointed out that culture is the soul of one country and one nation.A strong development of new media technology of science communication is required to adhere to the socialist cultural development path with Chinese characteristics,build a strong nation of socialist culture,construct a harmonious society and an innovative country.The National Geological Library shoulders the functions of carrying out the study of geosciences culture,promoting science popularization of geosciences and disseminating geosciences knowledge,etc.It has also encountered new challenges and tasks in the application of new media and the dissemination of geosciences.According to the literature at home and abroad,this thesis studies communication,science popularization,and that of geosciences and other related knowledge;analyses the influence of new media on communication subject,media,object;combs and summarizes the status of new media platform's application in the communication of science popularization and geosciences.Based on the study of the history,the variation and the present situation of the science popularization of geosciences in the National Geological Library of China,this thesis points out the problems in its system construction,content design,platform construction and product performance,etc.To further understand the needs of public for the science popularization of geosciences and evaluate the communication of science popularization conducted by the National Geological Library of China,this thesis conducted a questionnaire survey.The questionnaire analyzes and studies six dimensions,such as public needs,communication channels,and evaluation of the science popularization activities in the National Geological Library of China.This thesis puts forward the problems among the public needs for science popularization and the dissemination of geosciences.According to the problems in the National Geological Library of China and public needs for the science popularization of geosciences,the thesis suggests that the National Geological Library of China must adjust its orientation,seize the opportunities,fully implements The 13th Five-Year Plan of Sciences Popularization and Implementation Plan of Ministry of Land and Resources of PRC around major national requirements.It is also recommended that it must effectively combines the planning and design of communication,the enrichment and expansion of the communication content,the integration and deepening of the communication strategy,and the supporting and extension of the soft environment.Furthermore,it must comprehensively promote the capacity of building science popularization,build a product system of science popularization to meet social needs and a science popularization brand,and realize the integration with "Internet+".
