In recent years,augmented reality(referred to as AR),which used to be considered as an emerging technology,has gradually come to general people's attention.Unlike VR(virtual reality),augmented reality is a novel technology that combines and integrates information of both virtual and real world.Through augmented reality,users can access virtual information,and the real world can also being seen by users with virtual objects superimposed upon it at the same time.Augmented reality usually calculates the location of virtual objects with computer vision technology.Due to complicated algorithm,this type of approaches is not easy to implement and spread.Some approaches can recognize particular images,but are not suitable for any image.GPS is another solution,but only can be applied in broad and outdoor space.There is an indoor approach to track the location of target with infrared LED,while the cost of the devices is expensive.If an approach of augmented reality,which can be applied in indoor and space limited scenes with indoor location technology and with relatively low cost,can be implemented,it will be of great help to the popularity of augmented reality.On the other hand,with the popularity of smart phones,this kind of device that integrates high-definition camera,high-definition display screen,a variety of sensors,high-performance processor and developer-friendly system platform and highly portability,is very suitable carrier for the promotion of augmented reality technology.Among them,Android smart phones occupy a large market share,while Android is an open source system and provides different kinds of sensors and APIs to access Wi-Fi signal strength API,which greatly facilitates the process of development.Therefore Android smart phone is a fabulous option as the platform of the development of an augmented reality application.This paper attempts to combine indoor location technology and augmented reality technology to implement an approach of augmented reality based on Wi-Fi indoor location technology.First of all,this paper introduces the present research status and development trend of augmented reality technology and indoor location technology.Secondly,the principle of indoor positioning technology based on RSSI is described in detail,and the indoor positioning algorithm is experimentally tested to analyze the errors and location performance.At last,the design and development of the Android application which combines the indoor location technology and augmented reality technology are introduced,and the effect is tested and evaluated.
