Radars are playing an important role both in the field of military and the field of civil.MIMO radar is one of the most widely used among various kinds of radars.But its system is massive and complicated,while multiple radio-frequency chains make the data number of processiong tremendous and it isn't suitable to hand radars.The theory of Single Radio-Frequency Chain is popular these days.Its channel capacity is competitive with traditional MIMO systems,but it contained much less chains.With the properties not be influnced,it simplified the MIMO system.This paper combined MIMO radar with single RF-chain theory in the field of communication instead of optimizing the sparse antenna array by using intel ligent algorithms as people did before,and propose the theory of single RF-chain MIMO radar.With the help of Systemvue software,a simulation platform for this kind of MIMO radar has been set up.This kind of radar can be achieved by using switch parasitic antenna physically.The radar system works on X band with 2 ×2 MIMO elements.Two signals use XOR operation to get a control signal to decide the chain the radar signals are going to transmit,and one of the two signals controls the working state of antenna to form various kind of orthogonal basis.While receiving the radar signals,decode the two signals according to the single RF theory at first,and control the signal to get into matched filters.Fast Fourier Transform is needed during data process and Cell Average CFAR algorithm is required as well.Finally,by using Monte Carlo method,numerous simulations are set up simultaneously and the average number would be the final result.According to the result of distance,speed and detection probabilities,the single RF-chain MIMO radar didn't change much compared to the traditional one.But because of its less chains for computationthan traditional MIMO and smaller size,the single RF-chain MIMO radar is fit for hand radars.Finally,the problem that this kind of radar has is pointed out,and some parameters that may effect the preformance of the system are studied.Some qualitative conclusion are presented and they are going to guide the way of further study.
