Objective: To study the use of computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing(CAD/CAM)systems and machinable materials in tooth defects, dentures and dentition. To observe the effects of CAD/CAM on clinical advantages and evaluation of its initial effect. Methods: The related literature and scientific data were reviewed.According to oral conditions and recording of radiological examinations, patients with dental or dentition defect who came to Xiamen Dental Hospital in the last two years were treated as participants and given treatment plans. It is that using CAD/CAM design and manufacture during the process. After 3 months' treatment, use the reformed U.S.public health service evaluation system to evaluate the aesthetics, success rate and clinical effect of restoration.Result: CAD/CAM can complete denture missing repair, quickly complete the restoration of common dental or dentition defects. The edge of restorations was close, and all-ceramic had well aesthetic. After the end of treatment, the patient on the restoration of color, shape, appearance and function expressed satisfaction.Patients were satisfied with the effect of treatment, and after postoperation it occurs less dentin hypersensitivity. Conclusion: The use of CAD / CAM system and cutting materials to repair tooth defects, dentition defects and dentition missing cases can get good clinical results. The application of functionally generated path(FGP),virtual denture, and 3D-DSD in CAD software can be used to design accurate and individual. It can also facilitate the communication between doctors and patients. With regard to these applications, there is still a need for a large number of clinical cases, further clinical observation and statistical tests.
