At present,navigation and positioning technology occupies pivotal position both in the national defense and military construction and social production and people's life.With the rapid growth of astronautical technology and the national economy,the requirements of navigation and positioning technology are continuouslyincreased.The study found that many organisms in nature have a sound navigation mechanism,such as that some birds and insects are sensitive to the polarized light,and can use the pattern of polarized light in the sky to realize navigation for foraging and migrating.Under this background,more and more people are committed to polarized light navigation technology at home and abroad.However,the direction information which usually provided by current polarized skylight navigation method cannot obtain position information.Firstly,in this paper,based on the study of polarized light navigation orientationtechnology and the polarized light position method which has been proposed by our subject group,in order to improve the reliability and robustness of this method,a method of navigation and positioning which is based on multi-polarized light is proposed.The method is based on the characteristics of the sky polarized light distribution pattern.Using the measured polarized light vectors which are extracted from the polarized skylight,the solar direction vector is calculated and the spatial position information of the sun is obtained.Finally,the latitude and longitude of test site is determined according to the sun spatial position information,the time and the geomagnetic field information.In this way,we can achieve positioning.Meanwhile with the polarization information optimized and converged,the sun spatial position information is calculated which is more reliable and accurate.Thus the information of latitude and longitude of test site is more reliable.In addition,we built a polarized light navigation positioning prototypebased on the above positioning principle.The positioning prototype mainly consists of three parts,such as five polarized light orientation sensors which are used to detect the polarization information of the sky,an electronic compass and multi-direction array structure prototype body.In order to improve the portability,in this paper,the size and weight of the polarized navigation sensor which is the main components of the prototype was optimized.According to the positioning principle we know that the polarized orientation sensor's measurement accuracy have direct impact on the measurement accuracy of the prototype.And to improve the measurement accuracy five polarized navigation sensor were all calibrated.Five sensors' errors are all under ±0.17°.Moreover,in order to realize the data communication and processing of multiple sensors in the prototype and the position computation,the PC program of the prototype was completed by Lab VIEW which could collect and process the data from the sensors in real time,meanwhile calculate and display the latitude and longitude of the location of the prototype synchronously,with a data update rate up to 10 Hz.In the end,the actual measurement was carried out.The testresultsshow that the optimized and converged method which based on multi-polarized light is feasibility.During about an hour test,the operating state of the sensors is stable.Finally the polarization information the positionaccuraciesare ±0.4° and ±1.2°in the longitude and latitude respectively.These indicate that the navigation position method of the prototype is feasible.In this paper,the polarized light navigation and positioning technology has the advantages of strong autonomy,no cumulative error,high precision and relatively low investment and operation cost.The actual measurement results also showed that the technology is stable and reliable.The prototype can be applied to the actual navigation.Therefore,the positioning technology has high research significance and wide application prospects.
