The Art Of Narrative Of News Feature

A feature on a specific topic is a form of news report in which narrative art is employed.That narrative research is introduced into features report serves both as a helpful tool for news narration and as a concrete and applicable method for wonderful storytelling of Chinese stories.As is known to all,the general practice of news report focuses on objective and impartial presentation of events.With the emergence of new mass media channels,however,this way of reporting is fairly inadequate to meet the needs of the news readers today who not only want facts but also expect news report to be as vivid and readable as literary works.Therefore,special features rise as the times require and develop gradually.In this paper,South Weekend and Bingdian Weekly are taken as object of study.Relatively through comparison and contrast between the two objects are conducted to analyze narrative approaches from the perspective of narrative study.Based on narrative theories and relevant news communication theories,the paper centers on case analysis of specific features and makes direct illustration with data and words of their abstract narrative techniques.The narrative characteristics of the two newspapers are summed up as it explores four aspects,namely eternal subjects,co-existence of a few individual narrators,readers-friendly narrative skills and narrative contexts respectively.The use of narrative methods and techniques contributes to the readability and vividness of special features against which other forms of news report pale by comparison.What’s more,the paper puts emphasis on the study of narrative contexts and in doing so expands the scope of study.As a result,the study framework on narrative art of special features is so well-rebuilt that it can be applied in how to tell a good story in news report.The influence of narrative art on news report is manifested in many aspects.With the usage of narrative art,news report becomes more interesting and enjoyable.Although the study of this paper on narrative art by exemplifying points with cases of South Weekend and Bingdian Weekly fail to encompass all relevant factors,it is good enough to be used as reference for later researches on the same issue.
