The scanning antenna is a kind of widely used radar antenna.Traditional beam scanning antennas rely on mechanical technique to drive,so the system is not stable and the speed of beam forming is slow.The emergence of electrical beam scanning technique has solved these problems and has received wide attention.Frequency scanning antenna is a kind of electrical scanning antenna.According to the change of frequency,the beam of the antenna can achieve scanning.Microstrip meander-line slow wave structure is used caused its simple structure and high cost performance.As a result,most of the civilian scanning antennas are frequency scanning antennas.The waveguide slot array structure is usually adopted in the design of frequency scanning antenna caused its low profile,low cost and small volume.In this paper,the SIW structure is adopted to make the production more convenient.In order to provide a larger scanning range,the technology needs to work antenna with wide bandwidth.The bandwidth of traditional rectangular slot antenna is so narrow that this kind of antenna is limited in application.Therefore,in this paper,optimize aiming at expanding the bandwidth of the antenna is important.In this paper,two kinds of Ka-band beam scanning slot array antennas based on substrate integrated waveguide are proposed,including a standing wave antenna and a traveling wave antenna.The slots are designed as oval because antennas with gradient shape have a wide bandwidth,lead to the scanning range of the beam expanded.Simulation study about beam scanning was carried on by software.The detail simulation results are given in this paper.By frequency changing,array pattern beam scanning was realized.Gain of the standing wave antenna designed is more than 13 d Bi,with 25° scanning angle range.The relative bandwidth of the traveling wave antenna array reaches 23 %.It can be realized that the angle range of scanning is-40°~ 40°,achieving the wide scanning angle.In this paper,the antenna is processed and tested using signal generator and frequency analyzer.The tested results of the antenna are similar to the simulation.The importance of simulation results is verified.The antenna can be used in millimeter wave imaging scanning system.
