With the characteristics of programmable and global management,SDN improves the controllability and scalability of network. However, the lack of awareness ability for network flows limits the SDN to support application type based quality of service (QoS) control. In this paper, we propose a service-awareness based SDN link resource management scheme. This scheme introduces the ability of service awareness to SDN network, which improves the network awareness capability of SDN controller and enables SDN controller to manage the link resource based on application type. In addition, this scheme considers the importance of flows and the usage of link resource in path planning, and adjusts flows' transmission routes according to the change of network situation. With the new proposed scheme, the link resources can be used more reasonablely. In this paper, the main methods, i.e., network awareness, application type awareness, QoS awareness and optimal path scheduling for classified traffic are designed and implemented. First of all, we design and implement the SDN network state detecting module based on SDN main characteristics in order to monitor network status in real time. Next, we propose and implement application type awareness module based on SDN north APP so we can get flows' application types after analyzing their packets. Then we design and implement QoS awareness module based on program's auto recognition and administrator's configuration in order to identify every flow's QoS requirement. Finally, we propose and implement an optimal path scheduling method for different type of traffic in SDN network, which dynamically calculates every flow's path according to current network situation and the flow's QoS requirement. After accomplishing the design and implementation of the scheme, we deploy our system in some x86 servers and use Mininet to simulate the topology of network in order to test our scheme. The experiment results show that the scheme we proposed in this paper performs well in terms of functionalities, and the performance in transmission efficiency and network bottleneck prevention of our scheme is better than those of traditional scheme.
