In recent years, mobile communication systems have been developed rapidly with more and more complicated components.Antenna,as an important part, determines the performance of the system. At present,it features wide band and beam in smaller form and lower power consumption. It is the major research direction for designers to produce the antenna featuring high-performance and low-cost.This paper mainly focuses on the study of base station antenna used in mobile communication system. The symmetrical dipole antenna and the microstrip antenna are designed. The parameters such as the standing wave ratio(SWR),radiation pattern, gain and beam width are analyzed and discussed.First, the broadband dual-polarized antenna unit featured with small size and easy processing is designed, suitable for LTE communication system. Its working frequency ranges from 2.5GHz to 2.7GHz.Multi-point feed is realized by using a type of simple parallel microstrip line with low phase-shifting error to produce 180°phase difference between feed points.Secondly, the simulation result shows that the antenna after being perfected meets the needs of micro-base station. Then, another broadband dual-polarized base station antenna unit is designed to cover 2G,3G and LTE communication system. To increase the impedance bandwidth, the antenna uses two semicircular hammer-style structures to carry out coupling feed towards a pair of dipoles printed on the dielectric plate. The result shows that at 1.7-2.7GHz,the VSWR is less than 1.5 and the isolation is greater than 25 d B with 65°± 5 °half-power lobe width. Finally,on the basis of the antenna unit designed,a 1*8 array is made and feed by an eight-divided power divider. The simulation result shows that the performance including the gain and beam width is in line with the requirement of mobile communication system.
