As the rapid development of mobile communication, the end users are explosivegrowth. This puts forward to the new technology requirements for the communicationsystems including the base station antennas. A broadband dual polarized antennaelement and the8elements array are studied in this paper.Firstly, a broadband dual polarized antenna unit is introduced. The antenna unit isconsisted of two symmetric cross-dipoles with special feed method. The operatingfrequency range is1.8-2.7GHz. The antenna VSWR is less than1.5and the gain isabout7dBi. The isolation between the two ports is greater than25dB, axial crosspolarization is greater than20dB. The experimental results are approximatelyconsistent with the simulation ones. After the design of the single broadband dual polarized antenna element is finished,the8elements array is discussed and analyzed. The beam convergence and crosspolarization performance are improved apparently with building bilateral plate model. The front-to-back ratio is less than25dB by optimizing the parameters of the groundplane. The gain of the array is15dBi, and beamwidth is about65050on the wholeband. The isolation for the array between the two ports is25dB.
