With the incoming of globalization of information, network environment and demand of date center have undergone tremendous changes and the traditional data center network is facing a series of challenges. Because of the great advantage of optical network in bandwidth and energy consumption, optical network oriented to data center has achieved widely attention and been studied deeply in the world by academia and industry. This paper summarizes the research status of data center networks at home and abroad firstly, introduces some typical data center network structure and expounds their advantages and disadvantages respectively. Secondly, some commonly used optical devices in optical network are analyzed and introduced, then leading an AWGR-based modular flat data center optical network, named AWGRBM. Then we introduce the structure of AWGRBM from the top to the bottom: the optical ring network of inter-cluster communication, the design of optical switch for inter-cluster communication and the internal structure of module based on AWGR. Thirdly, the concept of modularization and the research status of modular data center are introduced, and the modular extension method of AWGRBM network is analyzed. Then we introduce AWGRBM network addressing mode and communication strategy and combine the addressing mode and communication strategy, so that the entire network can be more quickly for routing addressing. Finally, the traditional tree structure, Fat-Tree structure, c-Through structure and AWGRBM structure network are built, and the network scale is 1024 servers. The simulation results show that AWGRBM structure has a large performance boost relatively regarding to other network structure.
