Nowadays, the development of network technology is becoming faster and faster. There are not only traditional equipments (like router, switches, etc.) appear on the network, but also some new equipments (like VoIP phone, webcam, etc.). With the arriving of the IoT(Internet of Things)era, more and more kinds of equipment will access into the computer network. It can foresee that the network will achieve the real-time information exchange between people and people, objects and objects, objects and people. However, development always be accompanied by challenges, massive and complicated equipment not only expose more security problems, but also make network management more challenging. In this case, how to identify the type of device accurately and quickly becomes very important. In order to solve this problem, NEIS(Network Equipment Identification System)came into being.NEIS collects the network equipment data (including feature data port, operating system, service and Banner data) based on the web space search engine. These equipment data are used as sample data to training the classification model. After the data collection process, we change the sample data to feature data using feature extraction techniques. Then we build the classifiers using different classification algorithms. By comparing these different classifiers, choose a classifier with higher accuracy. With this classifier we can judge the type of network equipment precisely. This paper first introduces the requirements of equipment type identification in the network space exploration technique. We design the overall framework of the NEIS based on the requirement analysis. Then we analysis and design every module with detail in the NEIS's framework and finish the design and implementation of NEIS. Next, the system is tested based on the requirement analysis, which proves that the network equipment identification system conforms to the design principles and requirements. At last, the paper summarizes the work and the deficiency of the NEIS, and points out the future work direction.
