With the rapid development of the WiFi, 3G/4G/5G and other wireless technology and the increasement of various types of intelligent terminals, more and more mobile terminals with a variety of network interfaces to get the network service through a variety of access ways. With the proliferation of mobile terminals and the deployment of IPv6 applications, the future of the wireless network will be a high-density, heterogeneous access form, heterogeneous handover of mobile terminals will be frequent, in this scenario it is an urgent need to provide heterogeneous network handover technology based on IPv6. The current heterogeneous handover technology focuses on IPv4 network and generally has the problem of handover delay, high pachet loss rate and poor support for handover of heterogeneous media. In this paper, we propose a kind of efficient heterogeneous handover technology to deal with the future diversity of demand. The main work of this paper includes: (1) Based on the study of existing heterogeneous network handover technology and mobile management technology, this paper proposes a heterogeneous network handover scheme based on media independent handover (MIH) framework and fast proxy mobile IPv6 (FPMIPv6). (2)An analysis model is constructed based on stochastic model of heterogeneous network, and makes a theoretical analysis of the proposed scheme, and analyzes the proposed scheme, which includes handover delay and sigal cost. (3) The FPMIPv6 and MIH fusion modules are developed in the NS-2 environment, and the heterogeneous handover performance between UMTS and WLAN is compared with the existing scheme. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that compared with the existing scheme, the proposed scheme can improve the performance of switching delay and signaling cost.
