As the indispensable passive component in modern communication systems, power divider has the function of the power distribution and combination. Broadband power divider, a key part of spaceborne and airborne systems, is limited by its size and weight strictly. Therefore, the development of small size, light weight, low cost and good performance of the broadband power divider is a necessary and urgent mission. At present, many advanced technologies, such as LTCC (low temperature co-fired ceramic), provide a very good solution for the miniaturization of the device and the circuit of highly integrated design because of its high-density electronic packaging and three-dimensional multi-layer technical features. In this paper, the research and production of broadband small-size power divider in microwave field (X and Ku bands) based on LTCC is given in detail. The main contents are as follows:Firstly, the characteristics and principles of Wilkinson power dividers and impedance transformer is introduced in detail and some important indexes to measure the performance of microwave filter are also introduced, which provide a theoretical basis for the design of power divider.Secondly, according to the specific design parameters of the power divider, the theoretical model and simulation are presented based on the ADS and HFSS simulation software. By using multi-section impedance converter in series to increase the bandwidth, the microstrip power divider with 8-18GHz operating frequency is designed. With the continuous adjustment and optimization, S parameters are obtained and meet the requirements of the results. Moreover, other parameters are as follows: the reflection coefficient S11<-20dB, the insertion loss S21,S31<4.0dB,and the isolation S23>20dB. The center frequency and the volume of the power divider is 13 GHz and 31.04mm*23.23mm*7mm,respectively.Finally, based on LTCC technology, miniaturized power divider with the working frequency of 8-18GHz is designed. The center frequency of the power divider is 13GHz and the volume is 3.68mm*3mm*1.5mm.Other parameters are as follows: the reflection coefficient S11<-10dB, the insertion loss S21,S31<4.0dB and the isolation S23>13dB. The use of LTCC technology can reduce the size of the power splitter to the original 1/300. Comparing with the microstrip power splitter, the reflection coefficient of input port and the isolation index of output port are not very ideal. However, with the development of the relevant technology, the technical parameters will be improved greatly and meet the general design requirements.
