As Cloud Computing and Internet of Things(IoT)technologies develop increasingly,smart home has entered a new stage——smart electric power usage,which is to break the traditional extensive management situation for electric power loads,particularly under the background of energy crisis.In the past,the perception of power loads confines to smart meters of users,which is lacking of perceiving and measuring ability for the type of internal electrical appliances and consumption habits.Based on overall planning of smart electric power usage and smart grid,we need to perceive detailed electrical information of power loads of users.Therefore,all the trails are expected to monitor residential individual appliances,which has become a key application in home energy management,electrical safety and the construction of smart grid.In the research context of appliance state monitoring of under the smart home,this paper reviews the methods on intrusive and non-intrusive appliance monitoring;summarizes the analytical methods of appliance state monitoring methods,technical challenges and applications.In addition,considering future intelligent improvement on traditional appliances,this paper proposes an appliance state monitoring system based on smart plug,which includes the design of monitoring equipment of the system—smart plug,as well as the research and realization of appliance state monitoring algorithm for the smart plug.In the design of smart plug,as ordinary smart plug is unable to monitor and control the abnormal appliances and meet the needs of electrical safety,as well as brings the problem of wiring and signal radiation for home environment,this paper proposes a design scheme of multifunctional smart plug based on power line communication.With MK64FN1M0VLQ12 as the principal controller,this smart plug is integrated with power line carrier BU82204 MWV,electric measurement chip CS5490,relay modules and so on.It has the function of electric energy metering,over current protection,appliance state monitoring,buzzer alarm,camera monitoring and so on.As system monitoring equipment,the designed multifunctional smart plug makes appliances have the ability to be monitored and controlled,meets the multifunctional needs of users,guarantees electrical safety and realizes the intellectualization and informatization of traditional household appliances,which has a wide application prospect in the smart home.In the research of appliance state monitoring algorithm based on smart plug,considering the memory performance of micro-controller and the instantaneity of monitoring system,this paper proposes an intrusive appliance state monitoring algorithm based on transient features.The algorithm extracts features from the transient process caused by the starting of appliance,and recognizes the type and state of appliance via computing the correlation coefficient within the appliance feature database.As the experiment showing,the proposed algorithm is simple and easy to be achieved;it can recognize the appliances with similar steady-state features,so as to improve the recognition accuracy;it meets the requirement of real-time performance of system under the condition of obtaining the same recognition rate with loser sample frequency,small resource occupying and short recognition time.
