Recently a new type of paperless examination system was deriven from the development of IT,realizing the functions of automatic test design and robotized marking. An unused kind of on-line test system should be designed to ease the pressure of teachers for increasing load on setting papers, invigilating and marking. This article is based on the needs of the automatic test system that analyzing the whole process of paper designing, testing and marking as well as the functions and the characteristics.By synthesizing details from the data,a B/S(Browser/Server)mode of paperless examination system involving indications, functions and data creates, which realizes automatic test design, user login, marking and scores uploading.Database design is the key to this system but also a difficult technical point.Designing algorithm is the most important that can realize the management of the exercise bank and the automatic test design. We want to probe into arranging exercise bank under categories, then extracting a fixed number of titles corresponding to the different kinds of questions into the test automatically. Finally comparing the standard answers with the information of the examiners in office that extracted from the VBA(Visual Basic For Application).Designing load balancing and using data buffering can improve the running speed of this system and reduce the response delay simultaneously, which also can accommodate thousands of users to participate in the test at the, same time.In consideration of the later maintenance and renovation,we use COM components to encapsulate basic module in this system. This system can be applied to several of mainstream systems with a simple operation.
