Packet switching directly on the wavelength of the optical network based on wavelength division and multiplexing can reduce the energy consumption of the indirectly packet switching through optical-electrical-optical,which has a significance for sustainable development of optical network.The technical difficulty of packet switching directly on the wavelength is how to realize tunable wavelength conversion,and rapidly wavelength tunable lasers are its key technology.Electro-optic tuning of semiconductor wavelength tunable laser has a theoretical tuning rate up to several nanosecond.However,we have achieve wavelength tuning through multiple variables,which results in high complexity of the control system.Here a noval scheme of rapidly wavelength tunable laser based on self-injection locking of FP laser is proposed which only one single control volume.It uses current to tune the wavelength of FP-LD longitudinal mode.The laser through comb filter is injected back to self-lock FP laser to achieve single mode operation.We studied the basic characteristics of FP laser and the transmission spectrum characteristics of F-P Etalons.Then we simulated how FSR and Fineese of F-P Etalons used in system influence the effect of comb filtering.As a result,we decide the principle of how to choose FSR and Fineese.Simultaneously,we designed the temperature controlling system of FP-LD and FP Etalon with PID algorithm and the high-speed current tuning system for FP-LD with high speed D/A converter and voltage buffer.At last the precision of the temperature controlling system is better than 0.1?C,and the waveform setting up time is less than 30 ns.After the prototype of rapidly wavelength tunable laser is assembled,we have tested the static and dynamic characteristics of the wavelength tunable laser.Rapidly wavelength tunable laser can output 19 sets of laser whose wavelength can meet ITU standard for WDM.The dynamic tuning time from one wavelength to another is less than 30 ns.
