The rapid growth of the internet,cloud computing and large data industries call for a networking with larger capacity and higher communication speed than ever before.With the development of optical fiber communication,low-cost high performance tunable semiconductor lasers and large-scale integrated optical devices have drawn much more attention and become the current development trend.In this paper,we discuss the V-coupled cavity laser for access network and data center.Besides,we propose a monolithic integrated wavelength conversion technology based on the laser.Firstly,the basic structure and working principle of the V-coupled cavity laser are introduced.We propose a laser structure emitting from the half wave coupler of the V-coupled cavity laser based on mode selection mechanism of the V-coupled cavity laser.An angled multi-mode interferometer can be used to convert the multi-transverse mode lasing from the half wave coupler to the fundamental mode of the output waveguide,and the conversion efficiency can be up to 74%.We design and fabricate the devices based on the materials of InGaAlAs and InGaAsP,respectively.As for materials of InGaAlAs,we obtain 25×100GHz and 14×300GHz digital wavelength tuning for conventional V-coupled cavity laser and the device we design,respectively.All the channels have SMSR more than 35dB.Then,we propose an all-optical wavelength converter with simple structure and large wavelength conversion range using butt-joint platform.Static and dynamic characteristics of the converter are simulated using time domain traveling wave model.The simulation results show that by adjusting the currents of semiconductor optical amplifiers and phase control segments,6.25 Gb/s inverted and non-inverted non-return-to-zero conversion with 16nm wavelength tuning range can be achieved.The maximum extinction ratios(ER)are over 1 OdB and 5dB for inverted and non-inverted signals,respectively.
