The rapid development of mobile communication technology puts forward higher requirements for bandwidth and information transmission rate.The usage of higher carrier frequency is a major way for higher bandwidth.The Ku-band may be a good candidate for the next generation mobile communications.With the rise of carrier frequency and the expansion of bandwidth,it is a great challenge to design the RF system with excellent performances.In this thesis,the development of a high-performance Ku-band receiver for broadband communication is described.1.According to the system requirement,the superheterodyne structure is selected for the Ku-band RF receiver through the analysis of several typical RF receiver structures.The radio frequency(RF)is 14GHz,the intermediate frequency(IF)is 1.6GHz,and the system bandwidth is 1GHz.With these system parameters,good balance between wideband and complexity is obtained.The performance of RF receiver is analyzed and evaluated thoroughly with EDA software including the link budget analysis and spur analysis.2.Under the system scheme,key modules used in the receiver are designed and fabricated for the evaluation of devices and optimization of the circuit parameters.Hence,the design of the RF filter,the down-conversion module and the demodulation module with good performance are obtained.These modules are very useful for the complete receiver.3.The complete Ku-band RF receiver is made and tested successfully.The receiver obtains about 79dB receiving gain at 14GHz while the gain ripple is below 3.8dB within 1 GHz bandwidth.The measured noise figure is below 4.2dB.The EVM in the 800MHz band QPSK modulation is less than 31.9%,and the technical index has reached the system requirements.RF receiver developed in this thesis has good RF performance and has been used in practical applications.
