To develop wisdom agriculture and to improve the intelligence of agricultural equipment is one of the major programs of developing modern agriculture, promoting agricultural mechanization, strengthening the position of agriculture as the foundation of the economy and increasing the farmers' income. In late 1970s, our country introduced the first batch of mechanized precision planters from the United States and Germany. It marks the beginning of the precision planter studies. As the technique became more and more mature, it has played a vital role in realizing the crop sowing mechanization in our countries.Though we have already achieved progresses that can't be ignored in the field of precision planters, most of precision planters can only applied to bigger seeds such as soy bean and corn. Current researches on small-seed precision planter for sesame, millet and some grass are far from being perfect. Using precision planters that are available at present may lead to seed omission, in case planting plate, seed tube or seed box block and land wheels slip. When large area of seeding omission occurs, it will cause huge economic losses. At present, in addition to increasing investment into the researches on mechanical structures of small-grain seeding machine, we can also study intelligent monitoring of sowing. Even if seed omission does happen, it can be found in time by the monitor system, which will inform the driver to stop and solve the problem, and then continue. Therefore, farmers can make use of existing small-grain precision planter to improve the efficiency of farmers planting while reducing hard labor and reducing the risk of loss to a range that is acceptable.Current seeding monitoring equipment are created mainly against the application of big-grain precision planters. As the seed diameter of small-grain is usually about 1 mm or so, it is difficult for existing seeding monitoring to accurately monitor seeds of such small size. What's more, most of the speed meters on precision seeding machines are inaccurate. It is against the accurate control of seed spacing. As a consequence, to provide an accurate and humanized speed display can also improve the seeding quality of small-grain precision planter.The paper is about a monitor that takes the Single Chip Microcomputer as a core, infrared photomultiplier tube and Hall Effect devices as the components. The device can display real-time seeding data on LCD screen and send out reliable sound and light alarm after detection of seeding omissions based on intelligent judgment. Experiments verified that this monitor is applicable to small-grain precision seeding and it can monitor the seeding accurately and timely.
