Video satellites were created to take pictures and videos to the earth in recent years.Video satellites could take pictures continuously to some area through adjusting maneuver of satellite platform.The traditional earth observation satellites could only take a single static image,and they were not as good as video satellites in getting more dynamic information of some area.But the current video satellite could only take earth observation videos,and ground station could not know the specific content of video before passing down videos.The video may have no value to the user,so this wasted time and satellite resources.With the increasing of resolution of video satellites,the bandwidth between satellites and ground stations would cause data redundancy of video satellites.This was the limitation of video satellites.In order to solve this problem,data should be handled on satellites so that useless data would be deleted and useful data would be passed down to the ground station.As the main payload of video satellites,taking pictures and handling videos were integrated into intelligent imaging system.The system used CMOS+FPGA+DSP hardware platform,got observation videos,then did real-time identification of the target in orbit on DSP,and generated the information of target identification for the user to browse and retrieval,and then decided whether the video is transmitted to the ground station according to the value of a target,so you could improve working flow of video satellites,maximize the use of satellite resources,overcome the limitation of the data bandwidth,improve limitations of video satellites,which would greatly increase the intelligence of video satellites,and promote market-oriented application of video satellites.The Design of Intelligent Imaging System on Video Satellites was completed by the author of this paper and his partner,and the author took charge of designing the hardware platform of the system and writing drive code of CMOS which were the bases of the project.According to the actual engineering demand.The main works of this paper were as follows:(1)The design scheme of video imaging system.Through the analysis of the video imaging system's needs and comparing types and performances of chips used on this system,selected the CMOS image sensor as the imaging core,FPGA as the driven core,DDR3 which has high speed and large capacity as the buffer,DSP as image processing core and Camera Link interface as the output interface of imaging system.(2)Designed the hardware platform of CMOS+FPGA+DSP.Completed the design of the circuit of CMOS image sensor,DDR3,FPGA,Camera Link and DSP peripheral circuits,as JTAG circuit,reset circuit,2 and SPI circuit,and made PCB board layout.And took the heat radiation and anti radiation measures to meet the special requirements of the satellite environment for electronic equipment.(3)Completed the logic design of the CMOS driver and the transplantation of the target identification code.Completed the design of the CMOS driver code and the data output logic of Camera Link,and the partner completed the design of the target identification code based on PC,and will transplante it to the system in the future.The intelligent imaging system designed in this paper could take pictures with 2048 × 2048 pixels,and the frame rate could reach 50 fps,which could meet the observation requiremnets of video satellites.
