Since the mobile Internet has a rapid development, the market demand of Location Based Services is exploding in recent years. Many related application has emerged, such as rescue positioning, shopping guide, traffic information and mobile phone map. Meanwhile, LTE network has a wide development and operation. In such a background, the research on the positioning technology of LTE becomes a hot topic. LTE positioning technology is studied deeply in this thesis. The relevant technology of the wireless localization is introduced in this thesis. This thesis then discusses our main contributions: a weighted observed time deference of arrival(Weighted-OTDOA) localization algorithm; a weighted hybrid localization algorithm based on multiple characteristics; implementations and applications of positioning techniques in LTE.The difference between the Weighted-OTDOA localization algorithm and the traditional OTDOA localization algorithm is their positioning mathematical model. The traditional OTDOA localization algorithm chooses the distance between the mobile terminal and the serving base station as the reference distance, while the Weighted-OTDOA localization algorithm chooses a dynamic weighted distance which based on the estimated distance between the mobile terminal and the base station. A variety of simulation experiment proves that the Weighted-OTDOA localization algorithm has much more superiority than traditional algorithms. In this thesis, we propose a hybrid localization algorithm which named weighted hybrid localization algorithm based on multiple characteristics. This algorithm considers different types of information together and calculates the position of mobile terminal according to certain procedures. As the localization algorithm was designed for the actual engineering application, it can be well used in the mobile communication network optimization for positioning of measuring report data. At the end of the thesis, implementation and applications of LTE positioning techniques in real network management are discussed.
