Based on the characteristics of non-contact, high speed and Intelligence, the application requirements of machine vision technology are greater and greater in various fields,such as industrial manufacturing, medical care. However, the traditional means of detecting exist some issues: operate inconveniently, detection speed slowly, equipment wear easily. In this paper, taking the workpiece with large length as the object of studying, The design of the inspection system of machine vision is carried out. Specific overview is as follows:Firstly, in view of the large length characteristic of U type steel used in the elevator manufacturing enterprise and the requirement of the related error index, the method of pitch sampling and image cutting and splicing are adopted in the paper. A scheme of workpiece measurement with Large length based on machine vision is put forward. In view of the scheme, a set of visual inspection system is designed, the hardware structure and the selection of the motion control module and the visual module in the system are discussed in detail in the paper.Secondly, With the help of the motion control experiment platform, the image acquisition is realized, camera calibration and image correction are carried out for lens distortion. The principle and algorithm of image filtering,edge detection and sub-pixel precision are focused on, various filtering algorithms and edge extraction algorithm are compared.Through the contrast experiments, the advantages and disadvantages of various algorithms are defined.Finally, with the help of Visual Studio Microsoft and HALCON software, the linearity of the U steel and the measurement of the wall thickness are measured. The experimental results show that the design of the visual inspection system is stable and good. The influence factors of the errors in the experiment are analyzed, and the improvement measures are put forward for the follow-up work.
