Optical communication is a communication mode in a laser as a carrier for data transmission. Current laser modulation method mainly adopts the binary modulation, but this kind of modulation method is strongly influenced by atmospheric turbulence, the bit error rate of communication system. This article mainly studied polarized light modulation technology in the laser communication, the modulation mode is influenced by atmospheric turbulence is small, in the practical application has important research significance.Paper starting from the basic theory of polarization of light, the mathematical description of the polarization of light, and light the representation method of polarization, the electronically controlled birefringence of liquid crystal properties, is proposed based on double LCVR polarization modulation system design scheme, the phase retarders LCVR driving voltage and phase delay characteristics calibration, set up the experimental system, and the six kinds of polarization test, the experimental data is presented. The experimental results show that the system meets the basic design requirements. In this paper, the proposed method compared with the traditional modulation method, with low driving voltage, fast response speed, real time control of high accuracy, etc.
