In recent years, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) technique has become a popular modulation technology in the field of wireless communication. However, OFDM has low spectral efficiency due to the insertion of cyclic prefix(CP). And OFDM uses rectangular window, which leads to the serious spectrum leakage. In order to solve the above technical limitations of OFDM, FBMC technique was developed. Compared to the traditional OFDM technology, FBMC communication system using OQAM technique has many advantages, such as: without cyclic prefix, the system has high spectral efficiency, using prototype filter bank, so it has lower sidelobe power.According to the characteristics of FBMC communication system, through building the hardware platform to construct the complete system technical solution, and carrying out experiments in the actual scene, to verify the technical advantages of FBMC communication system. The main work of this paper is the design and implementation of the timing synchronization module in FBMC communication system.This paper analyzes the influence of timing error on the performance of communication system, and describes the overall process of timing synchronization. And we point out the two key points of timing synchronization, the construction of pilot symbols and the realization of the synchronization algorithm. Then, we research several data aided timing synchronization algorithms, and we simulate the TR algorithm, proposed and named by Tonello and Rossi, and analyze the feasibility and performance of the algorithm. Then, we design the timing synchronization module based on the FPGA chip, including system parameters design and interface design. Finally, we complete the module implementation, and the results remain consistent with the MATLAB simulation results, thus the timing synchronization module of FBMC communication system is realized.
