Collective Carnival In The Social Media Period

With the continuous development of the reality show which has gradually improved its formation and content, in October 2013, Hunan TV has successfully introduced the parent-child outdoor reality show "Dad, where are we going" which had the average ratings of 4.015% and 20.98% of the audience share. Countless viewers are fascinated by its creative program form and content. Thereafter, outdoor reality shows are booming on the major TV station, such as "Running man" on Zhejiang TV, "Flowers and youths" on Hunan TV. "Big star is coming to my house" on Jiangsu TV and some other programs. Nowadays, with the highly development of social media, outdoor reality show and real-time discussion of social media even lead to a phenomenon of "universal carnival".That's the world Bakhtin's orgiastic theory creates, a totally upside-down second world paralleling to the official world, in which people transcend the differences in hierarchy,property, position and identity, and transiently immerse themselves in equal, free and optional carnival life. However, outdoor reality show, to some degrees, possesses national, ceremonial and overwhelming features, especially the random but intimate atmosphere in the show, the humorous and relaxing cultural style, the hierarchical relationship among characters and grounded expression forms, coinciding with the features that Bakhtin had came up with "random but intimate contact", "buffoonery", "condescension", "vulgarity", etc.Nowadays, humorous folk culture gradually becomes the mainstream of television programs, and the public are of increasingly strong desires to spy on the privacy of the stars; coupled with the promotion of social media and the intense competition between outdoor reality shows, this "carnival" craze intensified. Meanwhile, the mistaken ideas hidden behind begin to emerge, such as the preset hype of carnival plots, kitschy contents to catch audiences' eyes, and the netizens' wanton abuse and vulgar violent shots, etc. In August 2015, State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of The People's Republic of China had enacted The Notice for Strengthening the Management of Reality Show, began to lead over-frenzied reality show to reform in political means. In February 2016, The State Administration had emphasized that they must strictly supervise the participation of juveniles in reality show, the development prospects for this type of program, which raised the industry and the academia's concern. Therefor, The author used the Bakhtin's orgiastic theory to analyze the typical cases,performance characteristics, and Carnival reasons of outdoor reality show,which by major television stations spend much capital in recent years,and summed up the misunderstanding of carnival, which would provide some constructive suggestions for frenzied outdoor reality shows under the benign policy of state.
