The Narrative Analysis Of Outdoor Sporting Challenge Reality Show In China

Many outdoor sporting challenge reality shows have sprung up TV screen in China Since 2013, such as Running Man, Infinite Challenge, The Amazing Race, Run For Time, 24 hours and so on. These programs have changed from "record only" to "record + story", from "popular" to "custom", from "single" to "pluralism" and from "watch" to "influence" in terms of narrative. These programs represent the new trend of the current reality show creativity and production, which the industry has begun to imitate and they trade-off in exploration. However, academic study has not too much attention or being less targeted.In this thesis, therefore, three of the most popular cases have been studied, including Running Man and Infinite Challenge coming from the classic South Korea variety show mode, The Amazing Race with an American reality TV documentary brand. Narrative method of these reality Shows has been systematically analyzed from four aspects such as narrative evolution, narrative content, narrative characterization, narrative structure and so on. It is analyzed in reality show building fictional story framework, narrative structure, arrangements of conflict and suspense and the settings in the competition.It is concluded that domestic outdoor sporting challenge shows continues the commonly-used narrative method and some elements of Hollywood film and television play, including classic narrative story framework, dramatic linear structure and focusing on settings of conflict and suspense, which many narrative characteristics has also integrated, including coexist of fact and fiction, narrative structure of TV series, flexible use of many kinds of narrative discourse and game settings in pyramid competition.The research cases have very prominent characteristics in narrative: "tearing brand" of running man in the game link has become the symbolic sign of the program, which led to new ways of recreation of public culture. "passers-by elements" of Infinite Challenge amplifies the story contingency as auxiliary events, which displays process rather than results. The Amazing Race pay attention to the record of real people in real situations, relatively simplifying the stunt in structure, and focus on recording the characters relations and the dramatic conflicts in the process of competition.It has been researched and summarized for narrative law with innovation and development of outdoor sporting challenge reality Shows in China in this thesis, which hopefully provides the beneficial reference for theoretical research and creation development.
